Good Morning Friends,
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to serve as an Ambassador at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway for a NASCAR event. Our job is quite simple, serve the guests of the track and make them feel at home. We showed people to their seats, answered questions they had about the track, secured transportation for those who needed assistance and directed them to the nearest kiosk where they could buy good ear protection. Our mission is quite simple as well, find opportunities to speak into people's lives and show them a God who cares.
On this particular day I met a gentleman who was having trouble getting around due to a knee problem and was waiting for his family to show up before moving on to their seats. As our conversation progressed he confided that his knee problem was a complication of cancer and that he had only been given a short time to live. When I pressed a bit he confessed that his health problem was minor compared to his 16 year old grand daughter who had just recently been diagnosed with inoperable cancer as well. He and I prayed together.
We separated and I became distracted in the comings and goings of other visitors until I felt a tap on my shoulder. As I turned around, I came face to face with my new friend and his entire family. He introduced me to Taylor his grand daughter as "the man I was talking about who wants to pray with you."
I pause here for a second to confess that I want cancer to appear ugly, I don't want it to be in the shining face of a beautiful young girl. I was in shock. Yet, this was the reason God put me in that place at that moment. Get it together Dave!
I prayed for Taylor and encouraged her with God's warm arms of embrace and comfort and His grand plan for her. As I looked up I could see tears on the face of her father. Seeing and feeling his pain, I asked if I could pray for him as well. I prayed for his strength and understanding and encouraged him to continue to be the father he needed to be for his daughter. And finally, the grandfather brought over his younger grand daughter, Shanley, and ask if she wanted me to pray for her as well. We prayed for compassion and support and for her to feel the strength of God's arms around her as she loves her sister in her time of need.
I share this story as an encouragement to you and the work that you do. Your job is simple, treat the health of your visitors. Your mission is simple as well, show God's love to everyone you encounter. Our Ambassador leader coaches us each morning by telling us that we have a choice, we can simply do our job or we can do our job looking for every opportunity to fulfill our mission.
I know that MHI is more than a "health clinic." I know that the employees of MHI are more than "health care providers." And I know that God loves the work you do.
As always, I pray for you and your families. I pray for your health, your strength, and your spiritual well being. I pray that God shows you the moments in your day where you can be an encouragement to those your serve.
In Him,
Dave
